Education and Training
I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky with a public school education until the age of 14 when I was fortunate enough, through scholarship, to attend Woodberry Forest School in central Virginia. There I received both a fantastic education and the good fortune of having a wrestling coach who was also my psychology teacher, which helped further my interests in the mind and brain.
Afterward, I received my bachelor's degree in neuroscience with honors and a minor in Spanish at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee before returning to Kentucky to study medicine. I completed my medical degree with distinction in research as well as my residency training in psychiatry at the University of Louisville, where I received the program’s outpatient psychiatry award for stewardship and quality patient care.
In the final months of my training, I received a grant from the department’s psychodynamic psychotherapy fund to study abroad at the University of Oslo in Norway under one of the preeminent psychotherapy researchers in the field.

Practice
My clinical work from the onset has been rooted in treating underserved communities. Upon completion of nearly a decade of education and training within an inner-city academic hospital system, I worked for a year as an independent contractor working at a community-based mental health clinic in western Philadelphia while also completing a mindfulness-based stress reduction training course at the University of Pennsylvania.
After returning to Kentucky, I spent a year and a half working at a maximum security correctional psychiatric center providing pre-trial forensic intake evaluations and treatment of individuals charged or convicted of felony offenses.
Most recently, I worked for a couple of years providing telepsychiatry services to a not-for-profit regional healthcare network serving predominantly monolingual Spanish-speaking and low income populations in the Orange County, California area before transitioning to private practice in Washington state.
